EHS to host forum for school board candidates

On April 28, Emmaus High School will host a forum with all candidates running for East Penn School District School Board seats this fall ahead of the Primary Election May 20.
Hosted by the EHS Activism Club, EHS students will have the opportunity during the forum to meet the candidates running for the school board 1-2:25 p.m. Students can RSVP and submit questions for the candidates to be answered via the QR code in their “Class of” Schoology page. The candidates include Paul Barbehenn, Alicia Du Plooy, Melissa Stiavelli, Christine Price, Rita Perez and up for reelection current board members William Whitney and Michael Felegy. Whitney and Felegy were last elected to the board in 2021, as school board terms are four years long.
Junior prom tickets will be available for purchase until April 23. The ticket purchase link may be found on the Class of 2026 Schoology page.
Students must bring a charged Chromebook with the most current Bluebook testing app installed and a photo ID if taking the SAT at EHS. The SAT will next be held at EHS May 4.
EHS’s Habitat for Humanity is hosting its first-ever “Royal Hornet” talent contest 1-3 p.m. May 17 in the EHS auditorium. Contestants must attend a rehearsal 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 15 and arrive by noon on the day of the event. The participation fee is due to Maria Russo (mrusso@eastpennsd.org) in Room 229 by May 5. The contest includes three events: a Q&A round, a talent performance (under 90 seconds) and a Hornet Pride outfit showcase. The winner will receive a crown, sash and $25 gift card. Registration is due by May 1. Tickets to watch the event will be sold during lunches May 12-16 and at the door for a small fee.
EHS will continue to hold several “Student Wellness Groups” in the fourth marking period, beginning April 23. These groups, run by the “Communities in Schools” program, are intended to provide spaces for students to grow and learn skills crucial to mental, emotional and social well-being. Groups running this marking period include: “Study Smarter, Not Harder,” focusing on building efficient study habits, handling test anxiety and staying focused, meeting 8:30-9:15 a.m. every Wednesday; “Un-Mute Yourself: Building Confidence in Conversation,” teaching communication and collaboration skills, 9:30-10:15 a.m. every Wednesday; “Teen Issues: Navigating Life’s Challenges,” focusing on a variety of topics including anxiety, depression, maintaining healthy boundaries and more, 11:40 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. every Wednesday; “Managing Conflict,” dedicated to supporting fellow students cope with drama or other issues, 12:40-1:25 p.m. every Wednesday and “Art for Relaxation,” serving as a stress management through art session, 1:45-2:25 p.m. every Wednesday. The “Art for Relaxation” session is limited to 10 students and will only run for four weeks. Students can sign up using the link located in the “Class of” Schoology page.
