Freedom has led the charge for local teams on the volleyball court this season and while Liberty is experiencing a down year, first year head coach Dan Shuck is taking the lessons from each defeat.
Liberty sits at 2-8 on the year with four matches left on the calendar.
For a program that has been used to qualifying for the District 11 playoffs, those aspirations won’t come to fruition this year.
Instead, Shuck hopes that this year’s struggles pay off moving forward.
“We have a young team and it is definitely a rebuilding year,” he said. “Many of our players’ skills have been emerging, but we are still learning to work through the adversity that we are facing.”
With Dieruff and Bethlehem Catholic on tap this week, the ‘Canes will have a shot at picking up their third win when they take on the winless Hawks (0-13).
Freedom (12-1) have won five straight and have a challenging set of games this week against Nazareth (10-2) and Northampton (8-5) before closing things out with the Hurricanes.
The Pates already swept the Blue Eagles last week, but seeing them a second time around should make things more interesting.
