LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Moyer pacing baseball team

Being behind the plate, Whitehall’s Konnor Moyer always has had a comfort level.

In his final season as the Zephyrs’ catcher, Moyer’s comfortability hasn’t changed.

Heading into this week, Moyer leads the team in hitting at .414 and also in RBIs with nine. His 12 hits are among the team leaders.

Catching, though, has been a constant in is baseball life.

“I have been catching for as long as I can remember,” stated Moyer. “I have lots of pictures and memories of catching since coach-pitch started. I love catching and the level of effort and leadership that comes along with my role.

“I started playing baseball since my parents signed me up for T-ball. I have played it all of my life and loved every bit of it.”

Head coach Eric Schmitt certainly has appreciated Moyer’s stance.

“He’s a coach’s dream,” gushed Schmitt. “He’s among the top-five in his class, and he never stops working. He’s mature and wise beyond his years, and a future CEO for sure.

“He has the highest baseball IQ on the team, and is a coach on the field. He has had a steady bat with a great eye.”

Moyer has felt good about his approach at the plate.

“This year I really focused on making strides in my swing,” said Moyer. “I haven’t had the best hitting in my high school career, but I really wanted to take that extra step this year. I knew I had a good eye last year, but I wanted to make more of an impact with timely hits and driving in runs.

“I am seeing the ball really well right now. The adjustments and tweaks I made in the offseason are really starting to breakthrough and show on field. I’m really happy with how I’m seeing the ball and I hope it continues through April and May.”

Along with his consistent bat, Moyer also has enjoyed working with the Zephyrs’ pitching staff.

“I feel really confident with our pitching staff this year. I have been working with these guys ever since we were little kids and until now. We worked tirelessly this year and I think they will play a big role in taking us deep into playoffs.”

Moyer is grateful for his parent’s support along the way.

“My parents have had the biggest role in my career. They have been there even when things have been at their worst mentally for me. They are always there for me and support me all the time. I’m so incredibly grateful for the blood, sweat, and tears we have poured into this sport.”
