Gogel announces run for Northampton school district seat

David Gogel, of Bath, announced he is running for Northampton Area School District Board of Education for Region 3. Gogel has previously served as an NASD board member 2003-23, including 13 years as president.

“This job is very important to all stakeholders,” he said. “The institutional knowledge that I have acquired over the years is helpful in making decisions that are beneficial to students, parents and taxpayers. This knowledge allows me to give helpful thoughts to administrators. Decisions must be made so that we maintain balance between students, parents and taxpayers.”

He noted he has a history of giving back to the community.

“Also, if you take of the last four years I was a member on the board, we had no tax increases for three out of the last four years,” he said.

Gogel graduated from Northampton Lehigh High School in 1969, Lehigh Carbon Community College in 1972 and Kutztown University in 1974. He continued with other courses after graduation as well.

Gogel used his degree in secondary education and mathematics, working as a schoolteacher at Berks County’s vocational school 1974-77.

After leaving the field of education, he worked for his father at Napa Auto Parts 1977-81, working in the machine shop, service and repairing automobiles. He then opened his own space and spent 42 years selling auto parts and doing machine shop work at David Gogel’s Auto Parts Inc.

Gogel retired in 2023.

Additional leadership experience includes serving on the Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School board 2003-23, including roles as chairman seven times and on the BAVTS school authority for six years. He has been a member of Moore Township Lions Club since 1983 and a member of Moncacy Lodge 413 since 1988, serving as worshipful master in 2003.

Gogel has been a resident of Region 3, encompassing Moore Township and Bath and Chapman boroughs, since 1981.

“I have made decisions while on this board to further enhance the educational process and to be able to do it while keeping taxes down to the best of my ability,” Gogel said.
