BETHLEHEM social calendar April 23

MAY DAY: Hearthsong Folk Arts presents the May Day Country Dance and Games beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the Charles Brown Ice House in Bethlehem. This celebratory spring event features a performance by Celtic band, The Chivalrous Crickets, as well as a feast of participatory activities, including flower crafting and face adornment in the lobby, a traditional May ritual processional led by a local pipe group, community caroling, social dancing and more.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their greenery (or any fun way they want) and to join the revelry. In addition to listening, group singing and lobby fun, the end of the evening invites everyone to the “village square” for beginner-friendly ceilidh dancing, and culminates in a traditional weave around a 14-foot May Pole erected in the theater.

More information on Hearthsong and the 2025 season can be found at heartstonefolkartscommunity.org. More information on The Chivalrous Crickets is at chivalrouscrickets.com

WRITERS’ GROUP: Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group will hold its monthly meeting from 10 a.m. – noon on Saturday, April 26. The meeting is offered in a hybrid format – in-person at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Library, 1 Weller Place, Palmer, PA, and online via Zoom.

From 11 a.m. to noon, writer and former GLVWG president Dr. Jill Peters will give a presentation on Team Writing. Peters was part of the 8-person writing team that produced Hear Us Out: Six Questions on Belonging and Belief. She will talk about the writing process up until when the team received the contract from Fortress Press – which was before the actual writing began. The whole process was highly unusual and broke most of the rules we have been taught about getting published.

Email glvwg.vebmeister@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link. For more information or to register for the events, go to greaterlehighvalleywritersgroup.wildapricot.org; “GLVWG Events.”
