Registration open for summer playground program

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring Book Sale will be held May 15, 16 and 17 in the Lower Macungie Library. Preview night for Friends’ members will be 5-7:30 p.m. May 15. Memberships will be available at the door. The sale is open to the public 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 and 17, with the bag sale starting 2:30 p.m. May 17. Donation collection will take place 1-4 p.m. April 26 at the Friends’ shed in the parking lot.
The Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26, rain or shine. There are many treasures to be found in this large development.
The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society will hold spring planting at the Log House at 5047 Hamilton Blvd. 2-4 p.m. May 4. The log house will be open for tours and the kitchen garden will be planted. The museum will be closed.
The film, “The Fries Rebellion,” can be seen at the Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History at Camp Olympic barn 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
Lower Macungie Township with Emmaus Rotary Club and Food Coalition will hold a food drive supporting families of the East Penn School District. Food donations can be dropped off through June 27 in the lobby of the Lower Macungie Community Center.
The Lower Macungie Garden Club will hold a plant sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17 at the community center.
The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon May 13.
The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon May 1 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.
The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon May 21 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

The summer playground program runs June 23 through Aug. 8 for children ages 6-11 years. Online registration for Lower Macungie Township residents is open.
New this year is Camp Mac – a full-day summer camp running 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16 through Aug. 22 for children ages 6-12 years.
Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 26.
The Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold a Spring Craft and Vendor Show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 3. There will be crafts, a gift basket auction, attic treasures, baked goods, perennial plants, refreshments and lunch.
There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 at the Lower Macungie Municipal Building parking lot. There is a limit of four medium sized boxes of sensitive material.
Lower Macungie Township will hold a Community Day 4-8 p.m. May 6. There will be free, fun activities for all ages including games, inflatables, entertainment and live music. Food will be available for purchase.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.
Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.
Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance, and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet, and tot sports.
The community center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff will be available by phone during that time. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and www.lowermac.com.
Yard waste center hours for April are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hours for May are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.
Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection. Yard waste collection is every other week April 28, May 12 and May 27.
Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed April 18 and 19 for spring holiday and May 24 and 26 for Memorial Day.
There will be a Flowers Scavenger Hunt for youth during library hours April 14-22.
There will be World Book Tasting for grades 6-12 4-5:30 p.m. April 21.
Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-8 p.m. April 22 for collage and May 1 for a floral book vase.
There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon April 22 and May 27.
Spanish Language Day for grades K-5 will be offered 6-7 p.m. April 23.
Home school hour for grades K-5 will be held 11 a.m. to noon April 23. Home school hour parent edition will be held at the same time.
Book Lover’s Trivia for adults will meet 10-11:30 a.m. April 24.
Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. April 24 and May 8 and 22.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 to noon May 7 is “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus. The book for June 4 is “The Wind Knows My Name” by Isabel Allende. The book club meets virtually.
Celebrating Mom! for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. May 8 to hear a story and make a craft for mom.
Books and Beyond will meet 6:30-7:45 p.m. May 12 at the children’s program room to discuss “The Girl Who Wrote in Silk” by Kelli Estes. The next meeting will be June 9.
Sunny Day story time for children ages 2-5 years is back. Storytime meets outside 10-11 a.m. May 14, 21, and 28. In the case of inclement weather, story time will meet in the children’s program room.
There will be a Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years 10-11 a.m. May 13.
Builders Brigade for grades K-5 will meet 5-6 p.m. May 15.
Teen Reading Lounge will take place 4-5:30 p.m. May 15 in the Children’s Program Room. Teens will be reading and discussing “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson.
The Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. May 15 at the library multipurpose room to discuss “The Last House on the Street” by Diane Chamberlain.
