Big week ahead for Liberty girls lacrosse
Liberty’s girls’ lacrosse team has already hit their win total from a year ago, but the Hurricanes want to hunt for a district berth with six games left on the season.
Liberty (6-6) have won two of their last three games, including a 13-10 victory over Central Catholic.
The win over Central reversed an earlier season loss to the Vikettes and head coach Samantha Weinert knew how important that victory was.
“The Central win was big for our team, especially after we lost to them earlier in the season,” said Weinert. “We played well, took care of the ball and took great shots. We improved on the draw, proving if we win the draw and have the ball in our sticks, we can win.”
Hitting their win mark from a year ago certainly shows the team is on pace to surpass that this season, but Weinert and company have districts on their minds.
They have two tough matchups this week against Southern Lehigh (7-3) and a rivalry showdown with Freedom (3-6) in a pivotal week that can help push their district fate in either direction.
“We are improving each day, taking it day by day to reach our goals we set in the beginning of the season,” said Weinert. “On Thursday we host Freedom, our cross town rivals and look to get our first win in program history against them. Freedom is a great team and will always give a great fight. We need to win the draws, take care of the ball and play just as hard in order to reach our goal.”
After winning three straight games, Freedoms stumbled last week losing to Easton and Nazareth by 15-7 and 19-7 scorelines.
The Pates have an important week as well if they want to get back towards the .500 mark with Northampton (1-11), Liberty and Northwestern (3-6) on tap.
Games against the K-Kids and Tigers have been get right games for most opponents this year, but the showdown with Liberty will bring the most juice for both sides.
