The 50th annual Lehigh Valley Senior All-Star Classic took place two weeks ago at Northampton Community College and two teams and two individuals were inducted into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame.
Central Catholic’s 2001 and 2002 girls’ state championship teams were inducted, along with former Bethlehem Catholic star Kalista Walters and Northampton’s Kara Bonenberger Elderkin.
The 2001 Vikettes went 27-4 en route to winning the state, but the 2002 squad was one of the best ever locally, going 30-1 en route to the state title.
Walters played at Becahi from 2011-15, scoring 2,273 career points and was a PIAA first-team 3A selection three years. She went on to play college basketball at the University of Pittsburgh.
Elderkin was a four-year starter for Northampton and helped lead the Kids to four straight District 11 finals appearances, winning two of them. She finished her career with 1,081 points before heading to the University of Pennsylvania, where she named the Big 5 Rookie of the year in 2012. She then went on to play professionally in England for five seasons.
