Street sweeping begins in Hanover Township

At the April 2 Hanover County, Lehigh County, Council meeting, township Manager Melissa Wehr said the township street sweeping schedule was assembled and sweeping began in early April. Wehr passed out a copy of the street sweeping schedule to council.

Wehr noted the importance of residents knowing the street sweeping schedule. She noted the schedule is posted on the township’s website and urged residents to check when their street will be swept. The schedule runs from April to November.

Wehr commented on the township spring newsletter, which is expected to be out to the public next week.

She also said there was vandalism to a sign at one of the township parks.

In his report, Engineer Kevin Chimics said the “No turn” striping project on Catasauqua Road is on hold because there has not been consistent warm weather to apply the paint on the street. The project’s completion is expected by month’s end.

Council approved resolution 2025-30 that honors the upcoming May 2 State Police Day in Hanover Township. The resolution is expected to be placed on the township’s website.

Ordinance 662, which includes bill 2025-02, was introduced to council. The ordinance will approve solicitation of bids for a contract for construction of the Lloyd Street milling and overlay project, which is a public capital improvement to be substantially in the form provided by council. Its approval is conditional in an amount not to exceed $700,000 and subject to a certain change order and unit price adjustments. The contract award will need a resolution of council after public bidding.

Council tabled a request for authorization for the manager to proceed with a promissory note and security agreement with Lehigh County for five annual principal payments, with no interest, for the purchase of radio equipment for Han-Le-Co Fire Company and Northampton Regional Emergency Medical Services Inc.

Craig Breneiser, of Essential Management Solutions LLC, explained to council that Lehigh County plans a bulk purchase for Lehigh County organizations. A bulk purchase will reduce costs. Orders are due no later than June 30, with a 90- to 120-day delivery time.

According to Breneiser, radios must meet Costar pricing or lower. Municipal agencies can pick the radio vendor of their choice. It was noted that Han-Le-Do may need more than 48 radios.

In Pennsylvania, Costars is the commonwealth’s cooperative purchasing program, allowing local public procurement units and state-affiliated entities to leverage contracts established by the Department of General Services for cost-effective and efficient procurement.

Council approved the township bills through April 2 in the amount of $90,138.24.

The next council meeting will be 7 p.m. April 16 at the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road. It is an in-person-only meeting. Visit hanleco.org to review the meeting agenda.
