SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My family consists of my mother, Kristin, my father, Alan and my dog, Myla.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is social studies. I have greatly enjoyed my electives this year: sociology, street law and government. I would consider this my favorite subject because I enjoy learning about human society and culture.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I recently received Senior Most Valuable Player for football cheerleading this year. My sophomore year softball season, I received an honorable mention for Player of the Week from lehighvalleylive.com.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I am a member of the Key Club, STARs and Best Buddies Club in high school. I have been a cheerleader all four years, with the role of captain my senior year. And I have played varsity softball all four years of high school, currently serving as a captain this year.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I plan to attend Temple University to get my master’s in criminal justice.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I would consider my biggest challenge my self-confidence. Fear of failure and judgment have impacted aspects of my life including my participation in class discussions, asking for help and stepping out of my comfort zone to try new things and meet new people. I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone more in the last year but it’s still a work in progress.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for having a lighthearted personality and being a trusted friend to some and a friend to many.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with any historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. If I could spend an evening conversing with any historically significant person, I would choose Sojourner Truth. I greatly admire her strength and perseverance in her fight for African-American and women’s civil rights.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. If I could offer any advice to my peers, it would be to fully embrace and trust in your true self. Believe in your unique strengths and qualities, as they are what make you truly capable of achieving great things.
