Freedom has been on point throughout the early part of the baseball season.
So has Central Catholic and the Vikings got the best of them in last week’s 2-1 victory.
Nolan Young threw a one hitter and struck out eight for Central to improve the surging Vikings to 7-1 on the season.
Michael Horvath only gave up three hits and one earned run in his five and a third innings for the Pates, striking out five in the process of the pitchers duel.
It was only the second loss of the season for Freedom (5-2), who have lose both of their contests by one run this season.
“The Central loss was tough,” said head coach John Bisco. “Great pitching performance by both pitchers. We just didn’t hit or get enough guys on base to get across a couple runs. That’s baseball sometimes.”
Freedom bounced back with a 7-0 win over Pleasant Valley to follow up the Central defeat, as Darien Serrano gave up three hits and struck out seven in five innings of work for the win.
The Pates have a chance to keep building momentum this week with Bethlehem Catholic (5-4), East Stroudsburg North (2-5) and Northampton (4-5) on deck.
“As long as we learn from the losses we will be fine,” said Bisco. “This week is a big week as two division games and all three games are league games. If we play the way we are capable I am excited about it.”
