Bump out discussions continue

Chief Ryan Trexler from Lower Macungie Fire Department attended the April 7 Macungie Borough Council meeting to provide information about the first quarter of this year. There were 234 incidents with 13 of those in Macungie. Council President Ron Karboski will be the liaison for the Lower Macungie Fire Department.

A resident spoke about the cutting of brush at Mountain Creek. Brush has been cut leaving certain areas quite bare. The resident believes this is causing further erosion of the creek’s banks.

Another resident spoke about truck traffic on Main Street. Police were often on this road watching for trucks proceeding up over the hill where it used to be prohibited. Both issues will be investigated.

Borough Manager John Brown raised the issue of upgrading the 13 bump outs along Main Street. There was a delay in working on this due to the implementation of the pedestrian crosswalks and lights. He made a proposal to use river rock to help with the control of water.

Brown also suggested the use of buckets for plantings. The plan would need $20,000 for supplies and plantings. There was a discussion but no approval on this project.

Karboski requested the aid of the borough engineer to assist with moving this project along. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation does not accept certain planting so they will be informed of potential work.

Administration is requesting to dispose of the 2003 dump truck which will be done through Municibid.

The Estates at Brookside is requesting dedication of all public improvements.

This is notice of the termination of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit No. PAD390086 administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Council voted in favor of allowing it with one council member against.

Council member John Yerman spoke about a potential grant which would involve park improvement. The borough has several public parks; the two mentioned were Spruce and Village Walk. The deadline for applying for this grant is May 31 so planning must begin right away. The idea is to keep it simple such as park benches, some landscaping and walking paths.

There was an executive session held regarding legal, personnel and real estate issues.
