Tennis gets big win over Freedom

Northampton’s boys tennis team posted a huge victory last week when they defeated Freedom, 4-2, on March 28 at Northampton.

“My players knew we needed to win this match and were looking forward to it all week,” said Northampton coach Daniele Bowman.

Northampton’s Michael DiSante and Freedom’s Oscar Avila played to three sets at No. 3 singles before DiSante pulled out the win, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

“As soon as Joey (Tomaro, No.1 singles) and Brett (Bastian, No. 2 singles) were done with their match, they cheered on Michael, Max and Chace,” Bowman said. “I love their comradery.”

Max Kochan and Chace Roland’s No. 2 doubles match also went to three sets where they defeated Jonah Rodburg and Manny Suarez, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

“For this match, I did not do coaching on the fly,” said Bowman. “Freedom’s coach was on the court in between the two courts, so I didn’t want to overcrowd our courts. I was giving Michael pointers in between the changeover through the fence. I spoke with Max and Chace after the second set and asked them if they wanted me to be on the courts and they said, ‘No, Coach, we got this!’ so I let them do their thing and they came out with the W.”

At No. 3 doubles, Nicholas Reichel and Nick DiSante won their match against Aidan Hugo and Henri Houle, 6-2, 6-0, and at No. 4 doubles, Collin Enright and Jacob Fallenstein also won their match, 6-3, 7-5, against Aidan Cabrera and Luke Eureyecko.
