LHS girls sit at 3-3

Liberty’s girls’ lacrosse program is taking steps in the right direction, as they search to find their footing in the sports landscape across District 11.

The Hurricanes are 3-3 entering the week and head coach Samantha Weinert is looking on the bright side of the way the team has played this year.

“We are taking each game one day at a time,” said Weinert. “We are continuing to work on our team camaraderie and team chemistry on the field. I still have high hopes for this team and we are looking to improve our record from last season. This group of girls is one of the best I have had the pleasure of coaching.”

The Hurricanes three losses have to come to the likes of Easton, Central Catholic and Pleasant Valley. All three schools have been regularly top programs in the sport, but Weinert is happy with the steps they’ve taken to close the gap on the field.

“We were trailing Easton and had a six goal comeback, but it wasn’t enough to come back and win,” said Weinert about the 18-11 loss. We look forward to playing Central next Monday and playing a better game against them than the beginning of the season.”

Ellic Corr leads the team with 26 goals and Erika Broesicke has 66 saves so far this season. Corr reached the milestone of 150 career points last week.

Liberty has Nazareth, Moravian and North Pocono this week with the hopes of pushing above the .500 mark this week.

“We did a lot of work in the off season to prepare for being competitive with teams who beat us last year,” Weinert said. “The girls have goals for the season and we are making our way, game by game, to have a successful season this year.”

Freedom (0-4) is off to a tough start but have lost two of their games by one goal, an 11-10 loss to Emmaus and a 9-8 defeat to Saucon Valley.

The Pates look to find the win column this week with contests against Parkland and Phillipsburg.
