LHS boys win two
Liberty is hoping that they’re turning the corner in this early lacrosse season, as the Hurricanes put a stop to a three-game skid with two straight wins last week.
After losses to Easton, Northampton and Northwestern, the ‘Canes (3-3) battled back to the .500 mark with victories over Pleasant Valley and North Pocono recently.
Head coach Joseph Magargal is pleased with the team’s start, despite some hiccups early in the schedule.
“It’s been a good start to the season,” said Magargal. “Had a little slip up losing to Northampton in overtime. Otherwise we have performed well in the beginning here.”
Liberty’s 11-10 loss to Northampton was uncharacteristic for the group that has high hopes this year, but they get a chance to show what they’re made of this week when they take on Nazareth (4-2) and Moravian Academy (3-1).
“Team chemistry is very high right now,” Magargal said. “I think we are right where we need to be at this point.
“I’d like to see the offense start to click a little more and have less unforced turnovers. Defense is holding strong, Ron [Heimbach] is playing out of this world in net.”
Liberty is leading the charge out of the local teams, as Freedom (1-4) and Bethlehem Catholic (0-3) are off to slow starts. The Pates knew this season would have some bumps in the road following the loss of 16 seniors from last year’s group.
The Pates look to get back on track this week with games against Parkland (4-0) and Bethlehem Catholic.
The Hawks have struggled to stay competitive, getting outscored 42-6 on the season.
Things don’t get any easier this week with tilts lined up against Moravian and Freedom.
