Whitehall Township resident Bob Frey, who spends time in Marco Island, Fla., recently participated in the Sportfishing Club Sea Trout Spectacular. The competitors totaled 59 anglers on 24 boats. Frey was on a team with three friends — Capt. Fred Curtis, Ed McCarthy and Mike Smith — who then chose two days out of the March 11-16 time frame where they would fish.
Frey’s team caught six sea trout, totaling 95.25 inches in length. This was enough to win second place in the competition, which yielded a monetary award of $175.
Staying active, Frey then competed in the Charles J. Pineno Marco Island Bocce League and clinched first place in the island division of the league. This allowed Frey and his team, which included Bill and Carol Forrest, of Wildwood, N.J., and Glenn Ahlquist, of Staten Island, N.Y., to move on to the two-day tournament March 21 and 22 at Mackle Park on Marco Island. He and his team took second place in the tournament.
The league consisted of 168 people or 42 teams.
Great representation for Whitehall!
