School board has vacancy

The deadline to apply for what is stated as “Northampton Area School District Anticipated School Board Director Vacancy” for Region 3 of Bath and Chapmans boroughs and Moore Township is 3 p.m. April 11.

According to the notice, posted March 26 on the NASD website, those interested should have applied by March 31.

During the March 10 NASD Board of Education meeting, board President Kristin Soldridge announced the board had received notice of a school director’s resignation.

Absent at the meeting was school Director Kim Bretzik, whose term representing Bath and Chapman boroughs and Moore Township expires in 2025.

After the meeting, Soldridge confirmed Bretzik had resigned from the school board.

An email to Bretzik, seeking clarification, received the following email response:

“Thank you for your email. I resigned my position as Northampton Area School Director on March 7, 2025. If you are a Bath Borough, Chapman Borough or Moore Township resident and wish to speak with your board representatives, please contact the remaining two Region III directors — Josh Harris and Brian McCulloch.”

It is expected the board will need to vote to accept Bretzik’s resignation.

The board of education’s next regular meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. April 14 in the auditorium at Northampton Area High School, 1619 Laubach Ave.

The board has announced it will hold a special meeting for public interviews for the school board position 5:30 p.m. April 30 in the cafeteria at Northampton Area Middle School, 1617 Laubach Ave.

Those interested in applying for the school board position are asked to do so via email or letter and include the following — Position Title: Northampton Area School District Anticipated School Board Director Vacancy, School Board Member of the Northampton Area School District, Region 3, Bath and Chapmans boroughs and Moore Township, effective April 30, 2025.

The requirements, per Public School Code of 1949, Article III, School Directors, Section 322, is that the applicant must meet the following criteria.

• Citizen of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Region 3, Bath and Chapman boroughs and Moore Township

• Of good moral character

• 18 years of age or older

• Resident of NASD for at least one year prior to the date of appointment

• Not a holder of any office or position as specified in Section 322 of the School Code and

• Not a member of a municipal council

• Resume

• Answering the following question: “Why do you want to become a school board member of the Northampton Area School District?”

Applicants are to submit the information to Mr. Craig Neiman, board secretary at NASD, 2014 Laubach Ave., Northampton, 18067, or neimanc@nasdschools.org.

At the March 10 NASD board meeting, school directors voted 8-0, with one director absent, to approve the following.

• 2025 kindergarten readiness Title I summer camp offered to incoming kindergarten students, June 16-19 and 23-26, and district personnel to teach at the camp, including Erica Amato, Nicole Cramer, Nicole Dougherty, Jennifer Haley, Jaqueline Schucker, Denise Straub, Beth Trexler, Gina VanLuvanee and Sydney Warner. The program is grant funded through Title I available funds. There is no cost to the district.

• Andrea Wells, benefits administrator at the NASD administration building, effective May 1, at $82,500, with benefits

• Sarah Andrews, special education instructional assistant (kindergarten-grade 3 autistic support room) at Franklin Elementary School, effective March 3, at $20.13 per hour, with benefits

• Karl Kozlowski, district security guard, effective Aug. 15, at $25.15 per hour

• Edward Schoeneberger, head custodian, effective May 5, at $31.27 per hour, with benefits

• Nelson Matias, custodian at George Wolf Elementary School (Mondays-Fridays), effective March 11, at $29.27 per hour, with benefits

• Contract renewal with Bayada Home Health Care for student nursing services at NAHS, based on individual student need, at a cost not to exceed $21,000

• Five-year agreement, Oct. 1-Sept. 30, 2030, with optional extensions up to 60 months with PenTeleData LP1 for network fiber optic communications services at $587.37 per month
