LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Guest View: U.S. Congressman shares his mission

As I reflect on the first two months of my term representing Pennsylvania’s 7th District in Congress, I want to express my deep gratitude to the people of the Greater Lehigh Valley for placing their trust in me. It is an incredible honor to serve this community and work to deliver for its residents.

Having served in the Pennsylvania State House for 12 years before being elected to Congress, I know the challenges our community faces. Price increases in the last four years have caused enormous strain for many in our community, especially working families; failed border policies have stretched local services and driven up costs for things like housing and health care; and too many politicians have failed to embrace common sense policies and priorities that put the American people first.

My mission in Congress is clear: to advance policies that lower costs, create good-paying jobs, keep our communities safe and put the American people first.

One of my top priorities is ensuring the government is accessible and responsive to those it serves. As a former state representative, I know how important it is that constituents have access to the help that they need from their representatives. That’s why I’m proud to have district offices in Lehigh, Carbon and Northampton counties. These offices provide direct assistance to constituents navigating federal agencies, including Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ services and more. If we can ever be of assistance to you, don’t hesitate to reach out.

While my team works to ensure you get the help you need here at home, I’m fighting in Washington to deliver the change that the people of the Greater Lehigh Valley are counting on, starting with addressing the real-world issues that impact Pennsylvanians every day.

Recently, I was proud to introduce a package of bills designed to deliver relief to the millions of working families in America who have been among the hardest hit by the price increases of the last four years. My legislation would help expand access to paid family leave, reduce the cost of childcare, more than double the child tax credit and expand access to adoption and IVF — because every family deserves the opportunity to thrive.

While Washington can often feel deeply divided, my focus remains on finding solutions that work for the people of Pennsylvania.

I believe in working across the aisle to achieve results that benefit our communities, not just partisan talking points. That’s why I’m working with colleagues on both sides to deliver for the people of the Greater Lehigh Valley, including by recently cosponsoring the Affordable Child Care Act — a bipartisan bill that doubles childcare tax credits for individuals and employers. Through this and future legislation, my goal is simple: to deliver policies that improve the everyday life of Pennsylvanians.

I’m also working to secure our border once and for all. I support common sense policies that prioritize national security while ensuring an orderly and fair immigration system. The crisis at our southern border that we’ve witnessed over the last four years has threatened the safety of our communities, fueled the opioid epidemic and burdened local resources.

Together with my colleagues in the House, we’ve already succeeded in passing several key new pieces of legislation, including the Laken Riley Act — a bill requiring the deportation of any illegal alien who commits crimes like theft and burglary.

I encourage all constituents to reach out to my offices for assistance and to stay engaged as we work to build a stronger, safer and more prosperous future.

Together, we can make Pennsylvania — and America — stronger than ever before.
