BETHLEHEM social calendar April 2

LEARNING LUNCH: Are your broadband needs being met? Are you struggling to access affordable Internet service? Do you have devices like cellphones, laptops or tablets, but need assistance in using them? If so, you are invited to a complimentary Lunch & Learn Tech Tutorial April 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Slate Belt YMCA. This event aims to empower community members with essential digital skills and connect them with local Internet service providers.

The Pen Argyl Area School District will provide expert training on various topics, including Internet navigation, setting up smartphones, and adding apps.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices for hands-on training.

TACOFEST RETURNS: ArtsQuest has announced the return of Tacofest, in partnership with Cazadores Tequila, June 1 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.

Spend the afternoon at the ArtsQuest Campus at SteelStacks enjoying tacos from the Lehigh Valley and beyond, great drinks, live music, the SteelStacks Chihuahua Beauty Contest and more!

Additionally, you can participate in the annual Margarita Madness and find out which Lehigh Valley restaurant is voted ‘Best Margarita.’ The Chihuahua Beauty Contest, held next to the Levitt Pavilion Stage, begins at 2 p.m.

SPRING CONCERT: The Bethlehem Area School District Alumni Band presents an afternoon of music, Sunday, May 4, starting at 3 p.m. at the Liberty HS auditorium, 1115 Linden St. Selections include music from “Star Wars” and the Doors. Free will donations are accepted.

HI NEIGHBORDS: Hi Neighbors is the speakers program offered by First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St. The program for Monday, April 7, will feature the history of Bethlehem Steel as shared by John Landis and Steve Landis, authors of Bethlehem Steel: Rusting Relic. The book and presentation will feature Steve’s rare, behind the scenes photos.

The program, which is free and open to all, begins with a social time at 9:30 a.m. with the presentation starting at 10 a.m.

POP-UP MARKET: “Community in Bloom,” a pop-up market offered by the Bethlehem Co-op Market, will be offered Sunday, April 13, from 1-4 p.m. at the Charles A. Brown Ice House, 56 River St., on Bethlehem’s Sand Island. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public, and will feature an assortment of food and artisan vendors, community organization info tables and hands-on, interactive spring activities offered by Hearthsong Folk Arts. It is part of the Ice House Community Days series.

The food co-op’s market will open later in the summer at 250 E. Broad St. The full service, community-owned market, which will be open to all shoppers, will focus on locally-sourced products.

The pop-up event will feature several local vendors that are scheduled to sell their items in the new store; they’ll be on hand with samples and/or product to sell. Some of the vendors scheduled to attend include Crooked Row Farm, Keystone Farms Cheese, Owowcow Creamery, Apple Ridge Farm, Fresh Tofu, Green Pond Packaging, Hippie Momma Apothecary, Pocono Organics, Meadowview Beekeeping and the Bethlehem Co-op Market.

Community organizations planning to attend include Northside Alive, Coalition for Appropriate Transportation, Northampton Community College’s East 40 program, the publishers of Edible Lehigh Valley and the co-op.

At 1:45 p.m. herbalist Krysti Schmidt will lead a plant walk on Sand Island, to forage materials for the event’s hands-on craft area. There will also be a raffle drawing for those attending.
