Trojans have ‘high-energy’ team

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team had a successful 2024 season, qualifying for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, District 11 and PIAA tournaments.

The Trojans finished 15-8 overall and 8-1 in the conference, were a semifinalist in the EPC playoffs, ended as the runner-up in districts and fell in the first round of states.

Head coach Vince Arezzi and his program are ready to finish better in 2025 and experience winning a title or more.

“We have a high-energy team that is built around athleticism and speed and hungry to win a title,” Arezzi said. “Last season, we came close and we qualified for all three major tournaments, which is always one of our goals, but we were unable to finish any. We’re looking to get over the top this season.”

Some of the top returning players to this season’s team include senior midfielders Blake Finnegan and Lincoln Brayford, senior attacker Parker Kusko, senior faceoff specialist Max Esteban, senior goalie Andrew Matulevicius, junior attacker Johnny Gerancher, junior midfielders Matt Kelley and Danny Tapia and junior defender Drew Schaffer.

There are also some key newcomers looking to break into the lineup, including junior defenders Colin Winfield and Christian Magloire, junior midfielder Ethan Leaks and Rob Gerdes and sophomore midfielders Bailey Wetmore, Matt Scott and Rylan Conrad.

This group, according to Arezzi, will be strong when it comes to talent and quickness.

“Our strength is our athleticism and speed,” said Arezzi. “We have fast, strong athletes at every position, allowing us to play fast and push pace. One thing we are working on is our consistency. We were not as consistent in 2024 as we had been in 2023. We are focusing on keeping a high standard of play and bringing our best every game.”
