SHS boys tennis must replace seven grads

The Salisbury boys tennis team might have some rebuilding to do this season. The Falcons graduated seven seniors from last year’s team that went 8-4 overall and 7-2 in Colonial League play.

Two of the team’s three singles players from last year graduated, including No. 1 singles player Nolan Grejda. The team also graduated it’s top two doubles teams.

“We are a young team and we have three brand-new players,” said Falcon head coach Gregg Laub. “But we play with a lot of heart. I expect us to do OK this season. The kids are having fun and learning the game at a competitive level and that is important.”

Junior Christian Marinos returns to the singles line up this season and will play at the No. 1 spot. Returning doubles players will take over the other two singles positions.

Sophomore Gerrit Kloosterman is the team’s No. 2 singles player with senior Conor Leavy at No. 3.

Senior James Scialla and junior Cole Muth are Salisbury’s No. 1 doubles team, with junior Christian Olesak and senior Patrick O’Keefe at No. 2 doubles.

The Falcons got the season underway last week and dropped their first match to Palisades, 5-0 last Thursday. They fell to 0-2 with a 5-0 loss to Notre Dame (Green Pond) Monday.

Salisbury travels to Jim Thorpe Wednesday then hosts Moravian Academy next Monday.
