LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Patriots aiming high this spring

Freedom is off to a hot start on the volleyball court this spring, posting four straight sweeps in their opening wins.

John Yanek returns for his 34th season in charge coming off a 12-10 season a year ago, but the Pates look like they might be one of the top teams this spring.

Back for Freedom are Ayden Willman (Jr., OPP); Joe Braun (Sr., S); Logan Shupp (Sr., OH); Ben Soleymani (Jr., MB); Bailey Fleckenstein (Sr., L) and Adam VanCamp (Sr., OH).

Newcomers include Dylan Shupp (Jr., OH); Carter Richardson (So., MB); Mike Champagne (So., MB) and Amrinder Gill (Jr., L).

“We should be very competitive overall,” said Yanek. “We should make EPC’s and districts. We are actually very deep at all positions and we’ll utilize all players in order to prepare for the post season.”

Freedom knocked off Abington Heights, Bethlehem Catholic, Northampton and Southern Lehigh in their four wins so far this season, but have three matches this week against Dieruff, Parkland and Delaware Valley this week.

Their showdown with Parkland on Wednesday will be there first major barometer test on the season.
