Hawks looking to improve

Improvement is what Bethlehem Catholic’s volleyball team is looking for this season.

The Hawks struggled to win games last year and head coach Tim Sledz hopes that isn’t the case this spring.

The Hawks are returning a core group of players from last year’s team including Daniel Sledz, who was named to the second team of EPC All Stars a year ago. Also returning are seniors Michael Parkes at OPP, LJ Horvath at Middle and Nathaniel Yoder at outside. The underclassman are led by Peter Tocci and Matthew Amrick who look to build on the experience they got on varsity last year.

“The boys put in a lot of hard work last year which we hope carries over to this year’s team,” said Sledz after a three win campaign in 2024. “They have also done a great job of getting other kids in the school interested in the sport. We have some new players including some foreign exchange students who have had some experience playing before as well.”

The Hawks lost their first two matches of the season, getting swept by Freedom and Parkland in their openers.

Things don’t let up this week when they take on Whitehall and Easton.

“As coaches we try our best to foster an environment in which players can learn to love the game,” said Sledz. “So it becomes something they enjoy now and hopefully for years in the future.”
