LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Key Club collecting canned goods

Salisbury High School has had and is holding many activities in March and April. From academic achievements to community engagement and student-led initiatives, here’s what’s happening at SHS.

Congratulations to the students selected for this year’s National Honor Society. Induction into NHS is based on careful consideration of a student’s scholarship, service, leadership and character by the faculty council. The official NHS Induction Ceremony took place March 20 in the school auditorium. This prestigious event recognizes the hard work and dedication of students who have exemplified these qualities throughout their high school careers.

NHS is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt 10-11 a.m. April 17 at the SHS baseball field. Registration begins 9:30 a.m. and the event is limited to the first 100 children who sign up. Each participant will receive a goody bag and snacks, water and coffee will be available for purchase. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. For any questions, contact Megan Basile at mbasile@salisburysd.org.

Following the holiday season, many local food banks experience a shortage of essential supplies. To help meet this need, Salisbury’s Key Club is organizing a canned food and goods drive. Teachers will be collecting donations in their classrooms and Key Club members will distribute the collected items to local organizations. This initiative has consistently made a positive impact on the community and participation is encouraged.

Salisbury’s newspaper journalism class recently hosted an exciting 3v3 basketball tournament March 20-21 during the Falcon period (study hall). The tournament featured eight teams, each with 3-5 players. The proceeds supported the journalism program.

The competition was intense, with Team Spizz winning after defeating a team of teachers in the finals. The championship squad included varsity basketball players Steven Lozada, Drew Petrie and Bryan Gonzalez, whose skill and teamwork led them to victory. These events keep students engaged and bring friendly competition to the school.

A beloved tradition is returning. The Student Government Association is bringing back Mr. Salisbury, a fun and entertaining event featuring 12th-grade boys showcasing their talents. The event will take place April 25 in the SHS auditorium. Free admission is available for all students and staff and snacks will be sold during the event. “We have a really special group of seniors this year, so I’m excited to send them off with a great event,” teacher Anne Ruiz said. SGA officer Haily Bender has been instrumental in organizing the event, ensuring its success.

With so many exciting events coming up, SHS continues to offer students opportunities to excel, give back and enjoy their high school experience. Be sure to mark your calendars and get involved.
