Hokendauqua: Free swim planned through May 14

Free swim time, for Whitehall Township and Coplay Borough residents only, will be open 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesdays through May 14 in the natatorium at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road. Photo ID proving residency is required.

There will be no swimming when school is closed for a holiday, teacher-in-service or inclement weather.

Children under the age of 10 must be supervised by a parent/legal guardian, and any child in need of a flotation device must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian while in the in the pool.

Reminder: Whitehall Township’s aqua aerobics program will continue 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 8 in the natatorium at WHS. No classes are scheduled for April 15 and 17.

There is a cost for both residents and nonresidents.

A Civil War reenactment and encampment will occurr 9 a.m.-7 p.m. April 26 and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 27 at Whitehall Parkway, 4689 S. Church St. There will be various drills, demonstrations, battles and more both days.

Whitehall will hold its electronics recycling and document shredding day, for Whitehall Township residents only, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 at the township complex, 3219 MacArthur Road. Follow signs leading toward public works.

Proof of residency is required.

This is a noncontact event, so you must stay in your car.

There is a limit of 10 boxes for shredding. Some electronics are free to recycle, while others have a fee.

Accepted forms of payment include cash and checks. Have exact change or a check, made payable to Responsible Recycling Services, prepared.

Whitehall Historical Preservation Society will be holding its spring flea market 8 a.m.-1 p.m. May 17, with a rain date of May 18, at 506 Mickley Road.

To reserve your 12-foot-by-20-foot space, call 610-776-7280. There is a cost for both WHPS members and nonmembers.

Whitehall will hold its annual fishing derby May 24 in Coplay Creek at Hokendauqua Park and Playground, 3417 Lehigh St. Registration begins 8 a.m., and the contest will take place 9-11 a.m.

There will be first-, second- and third-place prizes for ages 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15. All fish will be measured.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26, Hokendauqua Athletic Association will hold a community yard sale at Bob Warke Field, 3151 Lehigh St. Ten-by-10-size lots are available for a cost to sell your items.
