Egg hunt planned for April 5 at Franko Park

The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee held a meeting March 17 to discuss and finalize plans for upcoming community events.

Committee members report the township’s parks are beginning to come alive as temperatures seesaw back and forth between balmy and frigid — typical March weather in Pennsylvania. Crews have already begun clearing branches and debris as they work to get each park in shape in advance of the coming of spring.

As township residents anticipate a spring awakening, the recreation committee is focusing on the many community events that bring residents from both sides of the township together starting with the annual egg hunt.

This year’s egg hunt will take place at Franko Park 10 a.m. April 5. In case of inclement weather 10 a.m. April 12 has been set aside as a rain date.

In addition to the egg hunting fun the Salisbury Township police officers will be on hand providing snacks and drinks to all those in attendance. Registration for the event should be completed by April 2 under the news and information tab on the Salisbury Township municipal website.

Looking ahead to summer, Recreation Director Genny Baillie noted applications are being accepted for counselors for the summer playground program.

Counselors must be 16 years of age and able to provide their own transportation to apply.

The program runs mid-June through late July, 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday evenings. Applications can be picked up at the municipal building.

A date has been finalized for the Salisbury Township IronPigs Night. Mark your calendar for July 1 and enjoy $1 hot dog night at the park and postgame fireworks.

Dust off your go-go boots, tie dye shirts and tambourines in preparation for this year’s AM Radio concert which will return to Franko Park 1-4 p.m. Sept. 27. As you take a musical trip back to the songs of the ‘60s and ‘70s, you can fill up on culinary delights supplied by Top of the Hill Grill.

The next meeting of the recreation advisory committee will be held 7:30 p.m. May 19 in the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown.
