Celebrating 50 years of pancakes in Emmaus

The Emmaus Kiwanis Club will host its 50th annual Pancake Festival 8 a.m. to noon June 1 at Emaus Fire Co. #1, 50 S. Sixth St., Emmaus.

The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Stop by for a visit and experience the beautiful displays that provide a glimpse into many facets of past community life.

The historical society’s next program and membership meeting is April 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. The presentation is titled: “Wonderful Nice: The Curious Legacy of the PA Dutch.” Join Bradley Smith, curator at the Ephrata Cloister, for an entertaining discussion exploring the origins of the Pennsylvania Dutch and the importance of their legacy. Programs are free and members and nonmembers are welcome.

The society’s museum committee appreciates all donations of memorabilia that came from, was used or enjoyed by those in Emmaus. Call the office at 610-966-6591 to inquire about whether what you have is what they want.

Emmaus Community Park will host the Kiwanis Club of Emmaus’s 73rd annual Easter Egg Hunt April 12. The hunt starts promptly 11 a.m. with the ‘Eggstra” Special Egg Hunt for children with special needs starting noon. The Easter Bunny will be in attendance.

The event is free to the public and egg hunting is for children ages 1 to 10 with special prize eggs for each age group. New this year will be food trucks in attendance.

Emmaus Community Park will host an Earth Day Event 8:30-11 a.m. April 26. To register for the cleanup, please meet in the back parking lot. Shredding and electronics recycling starts 9 a.m. and will run until 11 a.m. or until the trucks are full.

The 27th annual Emmaus Lioness Creative Basket Party two day walk through will take place at St. John’s UCC, 139 N. Fourth St., Emmaus. The event will take place 4-7 p.m. April 4 and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 5. Bringing an unexpired canned good will earn you an extra ticket to win. The event will include a bake sale, 50/50 drawing and a lottery ticket wreath raffle. Winners will be notified the afternoon of April 5. For more updates follow the Emmaus Lions Club on Facebook.

The 25th annual Emmaus Public Library used book sale will take the weekend of April 25. Friends-Only preview night is 6-8 p.m. April 25. Nonmembers may join at the door.

The public sale is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26. The sale will be closed 1:45-2 p.m. to reset for the brown bag blowout. Fill a brown-paper or grocery bag for one price. Cash or checks are accepted and should be made payable to Friends of Emmaus Public Library.

The event offers a large variety to choose from including children’s selections, puzzles, media and much more. All proceeds benefit the Emmaus Public Library.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon April 3 in the lower level of the Macungie Memorial Park Hall, 50 Poplar St., Macungie. For more information, call Dot at 610-967-3284.
