Parade of Shamrocks

Thousands of spectators, many dressed in their Celtic greenery, lined the West Broad and Main streets route for the March 15 Celtic Alliance’s Parade of Shamrocks in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Bethlehem’s public safety operations, police, fire and EMS, led the parade and were joined farther back by the Friends of the Mounted Patrol. Traditional bagpipers, including the Liberty HS Grenadier Band, provided the parade soundtrack, and organizations dedicated to teaching Irish dance had students performing along the route. Three middle school bands, Broughal, East Hills and Northeast, also participated. Various pet-oriented organizations marched with man’s best friends, and classic car and jeep ownership clubs decked their vehicles out with St. Patrick’s Day decorations. A number of area businesses and radio stations also drove company vehicles, and veterans of submarine service even had a float. Various politicians marched in the parade and Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure was parade marshal.
