Liberty looks to defend title

Liberty has been the team to beat on the diamond the last four years. The Hurricanes have won three straight District 11 6A crowns and two straight East Penn Conference titles.

They went 20-6 last year and come back in 2025 looking to continue their tradition of being one of the top programs in the region.

But after losing eight players to graduation from last year, is this the year Liberty takes a step down?

Back for the ‘Canes are Franklin Pichardo Sr (C); Mikey Mariano Sr (P/1B); Kam Kensicki Sr (C/Util); Jaxon Horvath Sr (3B/SS); Dylan Metzger Sr (2B); Jacob Matthews Sr (1B); Justin Frey Sr (OF); Max Landis Sr (OF) and Adam Unangst Sr (OF).

Newcomers include Frank Lasso Sr (P/2B); Jackson Donatelli Sr (2B); Liam Fitzpatrick Jr (P/OF); Dimitri Condoulis Jr (P/3B); Rocco Sciarra Jr (P/IF); Jacob Strong Jr (3B/OF); Christian Hackett So (C); Kyle Brandt So (P/OF) and Willie Cruz So (MI).

Pitsolis looks at Pichardo, Mariano and Metzger as three players to lead this year’s squad.

Pichardo has already committed to the University of Maryland at catcher and figures to be one of the best players in a conference that seems like it’s gotten tougher.

“Our division is loaded,” said head coach Andy Pitsilos. “Freedom and Beca are returning many players, Northampton is returning a lot and Nazareth and Easton are always good. In the Lehigh Division, Parkland and Emmaus are always good, Whitehall won the 5A championship and are returning a lot of players. Up north Pocono Mountain East is a perennial powerhouse.”

With all that said, the goals for Pitsilos, who enters his 22nd season at the helm of the program, doesn’t change.

“Win the division, then the league and then the district and compete in states,” he said.

Max Landis slides safely back to first base during a game from last season. Landis is back for the Hurricanes this season.
