Food drive for East Penn families April 1-June 27

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring Book Sale will be held May 15, 16 and 17 in the Lower Macungie Library. Donation collection will take place 1-4 p.m. April 5, 12 and 26 at the Friends shed in the parking lot.
The film, “The Fries Rebellion,” can be seen at the Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History at Camp Olympic barn 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
Lower Macungie Middle School will present the musical “Honk!” 7 p.m. March 20, 21 and 22 and 2 p.m. March 22.
The Emmaus High School Drama Department will present “Mamma Mia!” 7 p.m. April 2, 3, 4 and 5 and 2 p.m. April 5 and 6. There will be a complimentary Gold Card member preview performance 6 p.m. April 1. The Gold Card serves as your ticket. Online ticket sales have begun. Zion Lehigh Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Alburtis Lions Club will hold a spaghetti dinner 4-7 p.m. April 12 at 8269 Spring Creek Road, Alburtis.
Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Plots are available to rent on a first come, first served basis for residents and nonresidents. Contact the Lower Macungie Township Community Center for more information.
Lower Macungie Township with Emmaus Rotary Club and Food Coalition will hold a food drive supporting families of the East Penn School District. Food donations can be dropped off April 1 through June 27 in the lobby of the community center.
The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon April 1. DJ Adam Skuba will provide entertainment.
The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon April 3 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.
The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon April 16 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.
Lower Macungie Township will host a Magic and Illusion Show with Tom Yurasits 1-1:45 p.m. March 22 at the community center. Advance reservations and payment are required.
Lower Macungie pool memberships are available online starting April 1.
The summer playground program runs June 23-Aug. 8 for children ages 6-11 years. Online registration for Lower Macungie Township residents is now open.
New this year is Camp Mac – a full-day summer camp running 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16-Aug. 22 for children ages 6-12 years.
Easter bunny Photo Fun will be offered for children 10 and under 9-11:10 a.m. April 12 at the community center. Registration is required.
Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 26.
There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 at the Lower Macungie Municipal Building parking lot. There is a limit of four medium sized boxes of sensitive material.
Lower Macungie Township will hold a Community Day 4-8 p.m. May 6.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.
Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Yard waste center hours for March and April are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.
Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings begins March 31. Collection will take place the same day as your trash collection. Yard waste collection also begins the week of March 31 on the same day as trash collection and continues every other week.
Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed April 18 and 19 for spring holiday.
There are many ongoing programs and events at the library.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon April 2 is “The Dictionary of Lost Words” by Pip Williams. The book for May 7 is “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus. The book club meets virtually.
Banking Basics for teens and adults will meet 6:30 p.m. April 3.
There will be a library open house 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 11.
Kite Day for youth will be held 11 a.m. to noon April 12.
Books and Beyond will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 14 at Teresa’s Italian Restaurant on Tilghman Street.
A movie matinee of live action “Beauty and the Beast” for ages kindergarten and up will be shown 1-3:30 p.m. April 15.
The Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. April 17 at the library multipurpose room to discuss “The Good Sister” By Sally Hepworth.
There are many toddler and preschool story times as well as children’s programs. Check the website for dates and times.
