MunOpCo Music Theatre is asking patrons to fill out a survey to guide the Allentown troupe’s future.
Star of the Day is presenting “Disney’s Dare to Dream Jr.,” March 21 to March 23 in Emmaus.
Chase, a Philadelphia resident and 2010 Lehigh University graduate, is performing her play “Mother’s Day” at Touchstone before taking it off-Broadway April 16 as part of the annual United Solo Festival in New York City. From there, Chase will tour the play to Connecticut, Massachusetts and Philadelphia.
The 90-minute performance uses spoken word, music, dance and film “to celebrate the women who made us,” Chase says.
“‘Mother’s Day’ is a passionate, playful, unflinching portrayal of the first, and most enduring, bond of our lives,” Chase says.
“The play is both a memoir of one mother, and an homage to all mothers. It is a clear-eyed look at the richness of motherhood, from the blissful embraces to the spirited skirmishes.
“The play is especially dedicated to those mothers who are no longer with us, except in our memories and our dreams,” Chase says.
Chase began writing “Mother’s Day” in 2024 as a memoir of her mother, who spent her final years in a dementia facility, and died of Covid in 2020. Chase says the play expanded into an homage to mothers throughout history and in our lives.
“Writing the play was an act of love,” Chase says. “I honestly could not keep myself from writing it. I shared the play with a few friends in 2024, and began envisioning a small tour in 2025.
“I learned in January that the play had been selected by the United Solo Festival in New York, and I would perform the play off-Broadway in April.”
In “Mother’s Day,” Chase shares her journey as she tries to fully “see” her mother.
“Mothers are God-like,” she says. “They create us. But they also create a world, and place us in the center of that world.”
Sydney Smith is the play’s multimedia designer and technical director. Justin Solonynka is accompanist. Gerard Stropnicky provided directorial assistance.

MunOpCo Music Theatre, which in December 2024 postponed its production of “Urinetown, The Musical” scheduled for February at Scottish Rite Cathedral, Allentown, is asking patrons of the theater to fill out a survey to help the organization plan its future.
In an email, the board of directors state that MunOpCo is not closing and wants to use public feedback to improve its organization.
MunOpCo states that its board is working on revamping policies and procedures, as well as the types of shows it produces.
“Urinetown” was to be the second production of MunOpCo’s 97th season. MunOpCo staged “Rock of Ages” in September 2024.
The email states: “Attendance levels have not fully rebounded since the pandemic, and rising costs continue to challenge us.” The board decided to take a “proactive approach to ensure MunOpCo can continue providing live theater to Allentown.”
The company, Allentown’s longest-running community theater, was established in 1927. MunOpCo is the sixth-oldest municipal opera company in the United States and the oldest linked to a recreation commission.
In 2006, the company became the resident theater at Allentown’s Scottish Rite Cathedral.
In recent years, the company struggled with funding and budget deficits, and in 2011, cut its season from three productions to two.
