EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mother’s name is Sandy and my father’s is Doug. I have one sister, Gabby and one brother, Sam, as well as two dogs named Charlotte and Henry.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject has always been social studies because it encompasses such a broad spectrum of ideas and subjects and allows us to learn about our past while simultaneously gaining the knowledge to create a better future.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have made the Principal’s Honor Roll every year throughout high school, as well as having been inducted into National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and French Honor Society. In addition to this, I received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award and the Widener University High School Leadership Award.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. At EHS, I am the president of the Young Democrats Club and Model United Nations, as well as the vice president of French Club, treasurer of Spanish Club and Students Organized Against Racism Club and am a part of the New Student Mentors Leadership Council. I am also a member of Student Government Association, Red Cross Club and Hornet Ambassadors. As a member of this variety of extracurricular activities, I’ve been able to connect with students, faculty and community members who share similar interests and who are dedicated to the same causes as me. Along with this, I’ve learned so much more about our world, supplementing my learning in the classroom with peer discussions, field trips and various events.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date has been dealing with the increased societal pressures that result from living in an increasingly tech-dependent world, one where, oftentimes, only the best are idealized.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I plan on attending a university to pursue degrees in international relations and/or political science with possible minors in Spanish, French and/or public policy.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I would choose to converse with Madeleine Albright, the former U.S. Secretary of State. For one, she held my dream job, but in addition, she was a brilliant diplomat whom I think would present invaluable insight into today’s foreign affairs.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my eagerness to get involved and my passion for connecting with anyone and everyone, and also for my long hair.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice is this: high school contains some of your most formative years and experiences, so work hard, get involved, but most importantly, enjoy this time, as any graduate knows all too well how quickly it’ll slip by.
