Borough council hears safety update from Tri-Boro

New members required to complete orientation; monitors placed at range

At the March 6 Northampton Borough Council meeting, council members received a report from Christopher Bodnar, vice president of Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club, about the action the club is taking to eliminate the issue of reported alleged bullets flying through an adjacent neighborhood.

At a recent council meeting, a number of residents provided testimony of bullets traveling through their neighborhood, allegedly striking a car, landing on a roof and more.

Bodnar said he is working to quell rumors and misinformation in the community. He asked council members to contact him if they hear a rumor or something out of the ordinary so he could provide clarification.

Bodnar said a meeting was held at the club for members to discuss the shooting range issues. He noted 95% of the members who use the shooting range do so responsibly. They agreed to help monitor the range for safety and proper use. Bodnar added the club installed range monitors that are clearly identified to observe the safe use of the shooting range.

When new members use the shooting range, they will be required to complete a shooting range safety orientation. Bodnar said the club also is adding dirt to strengthen the size and durability of the shooting berm.

Northampton Mayor Anthony Pristash applauded Tri-Boro’s efforts of increasing range safety. Pristash reported he attended the recent Tri-Boro meeting, and he said the meeting was excellent.

Tim Tepes, of Allen Township, received approval for a reimbursement of the $5,070 tapping fee for a lot in the North Hills development. The original plan was for two lots, but the plan was changed to a single lot. It will be a reimbursement for one of the two tapping fees.
