Trojans knock off EHS

The Parkland High School girls basketball team finally got some revenge on rival Emmaus.

The Hornets had gotten the better of the Trojans in the first three meetings this year, including the last one in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinal round.

Parkland turned the tides this Tuesday to take down Emmaus 51-42 in the District 11 Class 6A semifinals at Whitehall High School. It was the second year in a row the teams met in the district semifinals with the same result.

The Trojans dispatched of the fifth seed Stroudsburg, 53-42 in Friday’s quarterfinal round.

In the victory against the Mounties, Parkland trailed 11-9 after the opening quarter. The Trojans responded in the second quarter, outscoring Stroudsburg 17-5 in that pivotal frame that turned the game into their favor as they went into halftime on top 26-16.

Parkland remained in front the rest of the way and won the third quarter 13-9 to take a 14-point lead into the final stanza. The Mounties mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the attempt fell short.

Aneri McGalla scored a team-high 15 points. Delaney Chilcote tallied 11 points, including a team-best two 3-pointers. Isabella Hallal recorded 10 points and was 4-for-6 from the free-throw line. Addison Fritzinger netted seven points.

Against Emmaus, the EPC champion Hornets jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter and were looking to get ahead by double figures and cruise to a third win this season over the Trojans. But Parkland answered in the second and third quarters by outscoring Emmaus 17-9 in the second and 16-9 in the third to lead 37-31 heading into the fourth quarter. The Trojans kept their foot on the gas in the final stanza and remained in front the rest of the way.

The Parkland win ended the Hornets’ 22-game winning streak.

Chilcote led all scorers with 22 points, including going 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. McGalla recorded 11 points with three 3-pointers. Hallal finished with 10 points.

Parkland, which is now 18-8 overall, and will be looking for its second straight district title and third in the last four years. The Trojans will take on the second seed Easton Friday night in the championship at Whitehall. It’s a rematch of last year’s title game, which was won by Parkland.
