Falcons’ Tone takes eighth at regional
Two Salisbury wrestlers competed in last weekend’s PIAA Southeast Regional Championships at Freedom High School.
Falcon senior Nate Tone made regionals for the first time in his career after placing fifth at districts.
Tone dropped his first regional match at 145 pounds by a 17-2 technical fall to the eventual regional champ, Faith Christian’s Mason Wagner.
Tone bounced back with two wins in the consolation round before finishing eighth overall at regionals.
His first consolation match was an 18-5 major decision over Conwell-Egan’s Anthony Swartz. Tone then pulled out a 4-3 win over North Schuylkill’s Nate Sterner. Tone was behind 3-1 before a takedown with 23 seconds left in the bout gave him the lead and the win.
Tone lost in the fourth round of consolations, 11-4 to Tri Valley’s Noah Hanlon, sending the Falcon senior to the seventh-place bout where he dropped a 6-1 decision to Cole Byler (Pequea Valley).
Salisbury freshman Jarrod Blunt also made it to regionals, but went 0-2 at the event.
Blunt, a district runner up, dropped his opening bout by a 22-5 technical fall to eventual fifth-place finisher Cole Schisler of Bermudian Springs.
Blunt was eliminated in the first round of consolations by eventual eighth-place finisher Jacob Mackey (Oley Valley) by a 16-0 technical fall.
