EHS girls advance to D-11 semifinal
Most every high school basketball team has the same three goals: win a conference championship, a district title and end the year as the last team standing with a state championship.
The Emmaus High School girls basketball team is fresh off an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference title, the program’s first in 18 seasons, and is now looking to achieve its next goal.
The Hornets earned the number one seed in the District 11 6A tournament and are looking to win their first district title in 21 seasons. Emmaus is 25-1 overall and has won 21 games in-a-row, that streaked continued in their first game at districts.
In the first game of the district tournament, the Hornets made quick work of the eighth seed, Northampton, winning 58-30 last Friday night in the quarterfinals at Whitehall High School.
The game was out of reach after the opening eight minutes as Emmaus outscored the Kids (10-13 overall) 16-6 in the first quarter and led 33-15 at halftime.
Kayla Snyder finished with a game-best 19 points, 15 of which came in that first half to help her team take a big lead. EPC championship game MVP Gabby DeVita tallied 13 points and was the standout in the second half, scoring eight of her points the final 16 minutes. The Hornets outscored Northampton 25-15 in the second half.
Cassie Doemling recorded nine points. Emma Naccarato contributed six points.
Emmaus played the four seed Parkland in the semifinals. That game was played after Press deadline.
Emaus beat Parkland twice during the regular season and again in the EPC semifinals. The Trojans defeated fifth-seed Stroudsburg in their quarterfinal round matchup. These two teams met in this same game last season with Parkland coming out on top before eventually reaching the state semifinals.
