Aidan and Ben Nichols combined for all of the scoring as the Emmaus High School ice hockey team concluded its regular season with a 6-3 defeat to the Lehigh Valley Saints last Friday night in a Lehigh Valley Scholastic Ice Hockey League game at the Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem.
Aidan Nichols scored twice, while Ben Nichols found the back of the net once. The duo both had a goal in a high-scoring first period where the two teams combined to score five times. Aidan’s tally was the game’s opener 2:22 into the contest on an assist by Silas Wellhoener, but the Saints responded with three consecutive goals, before Ben’s goal just 1:01 left in the opening period as the Hornets found themselves behind 3-2, with an assist by Connor Treaster.
Lehigh Valley did all of the scoring in the second period with two goals to extend its advantage to 5-2 heading into the final period.
Aidan Nichols recorded his second goal of the game to open up the third period, 8:22 in to pull to within just 5-3. But the Saints doubled up their lead once again with a goal 2:16 later.
The Saints outshot the Hornets 42-28 in the game. Josh Pierce started in net for Emmaus and finished with 36 saves on the 42 shots with an .857 save percentage.
