Whitehall’s swimming team competed in the District XI Class 3A Swimming Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1 at Parkland High School.
Zephyr freshman Kendall Bashore placed sixth in two individual events: the 100 butterfly (1:01.70) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.47).
“The first 50 is actually easier for me. I’m definitely stronger with the fast-paced races, but then the second 50 is just a push until you win that race, and that last lap, you’ve really got to push. It was really tough toward the end,” said Bashore after the fly. “I was really nervous, yes. It’s stressful. You feel the pressure. It’s 10 times more, and all the people watching makes it worse.”
In relay events, Bashore, Jenna Giedl, Kyra Giedl, and Greta O’Brien placed seventh of 13 teams in the 200 medley relay (2:01.80).
Quinn Doyle, Glenn Kline, Johnny Stinner, and Cameron Herring placed ninth of 13 teams, also in the 200 medley relay (1:52.61).
In the 200 free relay, Bashore, Ryann Giedl, Kyra Giedl, and O’Brien came in 10th of 14 (1:49.42), and Stinner, Griffin Werner, Doyle, and Herring came in ninth of 13 (1:37.93).
O’Brien, Kyra Giedl, Ryann Giedl, Jenna Giedl placed 11th of 13 in the 400 free relay (4:13.61), and
Stinner, Herring, Kline, and Werner placed eighth of 13, also in the 400 free relay (3:42.82).
The Whitehall Zephyrs are coached by Dave Seeloff.
