Liberty and Freedom’s swim teams competed in the District XI Class 3A Swimming Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1 at Parkland High School where Liberty freshman Adam Barlow was crowned district champion in the boys 100 breaststroke.

Barlow out touched Nazareth’s Anthony Quaranta, 58.26-58.62, for the district gold medal.

In the meet’s first event, Liberty’s Lilah McClarin, Leah Onia, Katie Bruno, and Audrey Bloss-Ferry won the fourth-place medal for the girls 200 medley relay (1:53.92), and Barlow, Everett Collins, John Cornish, and David Gabrielle won the fourth-place medal for the boys race (1:37.61).

Freedom’s Alexia Ragab, Alivia Deemer, Sofia Nabyt, and Laney Stewart came in sixth for the girls (1:57.03), and Asa Lawser, Ben Rader, Micah Lawser, and Griffin Kleinle came in eighth for the boys (1:50.18).

Onia took sixth place in the 200 IM (2:23.86).

In the 50 freestyle, Deemer placed 10th (26.30), and Barlow was sixth (22.17).

Bloss-Ferry took fifth place in the 100 butterfly (1:00.92), and Robert Coddington, also from Liberty, placed 10th in the fly (56.63).

In the girls 200 free relay, McClarin, Amelia Paxton, Elle Surowlecki, and Bloss-Ferry came in sixth (1:45.66), and Nabyt, Ragab, Stewart, and Deemer were seventh (1:46.05).

In the boys 200 free relay, Barlow, Collins, Cornish, and Logan Malozi took fifth place (1:32.23), and Antonios Tatakis, Joseph Volkert, Cristian Urena, and Kleinle placed 10th for the Patriots (1:38.51).

Bloss-Ferry placed eighth in the 100 freestyle (56.28), and McClarin was seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:04.88).

In the girls 100 breaststroke, Onia took fourth place (1:10.28), Deemer came in sixth (1:11.17), and Bruno placed 10th (1:13.56).

In the girls 400 free relay, Sophia O’Hara, Paxton, Bruno, and Onia finished the race in sixth place (3:58.57), and Lily Campbell, Chloe Levin, Ragab, and Kaylee Buglino came in ninth for the Pates (4:08.33).

In the boys 400 free relay, Kleinle, Urena, Tatakis, and Micah Lawser placed seventh (3:38.11).

Freedom’s swim team is coached by Alexa Kutch, and Reik Foust coaches the Liberty Hurricanes.

Barlow will compete at the PIAA Class 3A State Swimming Championships later this month at Bucknell University.
