State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, and state Sen. Nick Miller, D-14th, announced a state grant award for a project in Whitehall Township Feb. 24. The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded Whitehall Township $430,560 for curb ramp improvements.
The CFA approved the funding from the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.
“Curb ramp improvements are crucial for those who live in our community that have mobility challenges,” McNeill said. “These improvements will provide better access between the sidewalk and roadway for people using wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, hand carts, bicycles and for pedestrians with mobility problems who have trouble stepping up and down high curbs. I am happy that I could work with state Sen. Nick Miller to secure funding for our community.”
Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
“I am proud to announce the allocation of $430,560 in funding for Whitehall through the Multimodal Transportation Fund,” Miller said. “These types of investments are vital to our residents as we strive to enhance our streets and improve mobility for all. The installation of curb ramps will provide a visible and tangible signal, serving the needs of all residents, particularly those with limited mobility or vision.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system is available to residents of the commonwealth.
