Whitehall High School graduate
Scott Franklin Baer, 64, of Lewes, Del., and formerly of Fleetwood, died Feb. 25, 2025, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. He was the husband of Christi (Sarfert) Baer for 41 years.
He was a son of the late Franklin “Skip” and Dorothy (Kohut) Baer.
He was a 1979 graduate of Whitehall High School. He was a recipient of the Lehigh Valley Scholar Athlete Award during his senior year.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1983. He served on a nuclear submarine, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander. After an honorable discharge, he continued in the reserves for 13 years.
He also worked at Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown before retiring in 2016.
He coached youth soccer. He served on the Fleetwood Area School Board for eight years and was elected president of the board for his last two years. Additionally, he served as vice president for the Lewes Crossing Homeowners Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nicole Hower and husband Nathan and Samantha Baer-Gibson and husband Troy; five grandchildren, Peyton, Kendall and Avery Hower and Tenley and Elliott Gibson; two sisters, Heidi and Holly Thaler and husband Dave; a brother-in-law, James Sarfert and wife Suzanne; and multiple nieces and nephews.
