Scott Franklin Baer, 64, of Lewes, Del. formerly of Fleetwood, died Feb. 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

A 1979 graduate of Whitehall High School and a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he played football and baseball in high school.

He received the Lehigh Valley Scholar Athlete Award during his senior year.

In the Navy, he served on a nuclear submarine, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander.

After an honorable discharge, he continued in the Reserves for 13 years while also having a career at Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown, from which he retired in 2016.

His family was his pride and joy.

He was actively involved with his children’s activities, including coaching youth soccer and attending countless swim meets, basketball games, soccer games and volleyball matches.

He proudly served on the Fleetwood Area School Board for eight years, and was elected president of the board for his last two years.

A big advocate, he volunteered his time for SkillsUSA and The Five Star Heart Project.

Additionally, he served as vice president for the Lewes Crossing HOA.

An avid lover of the outdoors and staying active, his hobbies included both mountain and road biking, as well as spending time on the golf course.

He fulfilled one of his biggest dreams when he was able to play a round of golf at The Olde Course at St. Andrew, Scotland.

He loved to travel the world with both family and friends, and was fortunate to have one final trip to Jamaica with his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren in tow.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christi (Sarfert) Baer; daughters Nicole Hower and husband Nathan, and Samantha Baer-Gibson and husband Troy; grandchildren Peyton, Kendall and Avery Hower, and Tenley and Elliott Gibson; sisters Heidi Baer, and Holly Thaler and husband Dave; brother-in-law James Sarfert and wife Suzanne; and multiple nieces and nephews.
