History groups in Upper Milford Township to host events March 25 and March 27

Upper Milford Township residents, consider this your “Save the Date” notice.
On June 21, Upper Milford Township Recreation Commission and UMYA will host their Jasper Day Celebration 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Jasper Park, 4960 Vera Cruz Road.
A family-friendly event, the celebration will include games, the Tour de Vera Cruz 5K Trail Run and the 1.5K Family Summer Stroll and fun on the Jasper Park playground.
In an email to The Press, Upper Milford Township Secretary Treasurer Jessi O’Donald wrote, “The goal of this event is to bring the Upper Milford Community together for a few hours of fun and games.”

On a personal note, I have fond memories of the fun my younger self had watching my brother play baseball on the Jasper Park field and riding the giant chicken on a spring in the park playground.
Turning the focus back to the current month, on March 25 Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will host “An Evening with Russ Rentler” 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. Rentler is a musician and songwriter specializing in acoustic music. Admission is free and all are welcome.
On March 27, the Upper Milford Historical Society will feature Scott Bieber in a talk about local mining at the monthly meeting 7 p.m. Bieber will highlight early mining operations for iron ore in the Vera Cruz area. The society will meet in the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St.
Residents of Lower Milford Township are asked to save the date of April 26 for Lower Milford Township’s Spring Clean Up Day 8 a.m. to noon.
A picnic lunch will be provided.

On March 12, the Friends of the Southern Lehigh Public Library will host the event “An Evening with Friends: The Silk Industry.” Martha Capwell Fox, historian for the National Museum and the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, will talk about silk manufacturing in Pennsylvania.
The program will be held 7-8 p.m. at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.
There is a cost and registration is required. Visit or call the front desk at the library for details.
The Southern Lehigh Library is the home library for Lower Milford Township residents.
Upper Milford Township residents may want to visit their home library, the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus, March 7 and/or March 8 for the annual Tee Time at the Library fundraiser. Enthusiasts of mini golf play a course in the library stacks. The March 7 event is for adults only. The March 8 event is family-friendly.
There is a cost.

The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 7 p.m. March 6 and March 20 at the municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. An online option also is available.
The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 6:30 p.m. March 20 at the municipal building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
