Heated garage for borough equipment discussed

At the March 3 Macungie Borough Council meeting, representatives from the Greater Lehigh Chamber of Commerce gave a presentation. Hayden Rinde and Emily Brosky came to the meeting and spoke about the purpose of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce and its mission to aid local businesses. Recently, the chamber sponsored Restaurant Week.

The Hometown Hero program has been in place in the borough, There were recently 16 applications for hero’s banners to be hung in the borough.

Mayor Ron Conrad attended a birthday party for a long-time resident. Mary Margaret (Dolly) Bachman turned 100 years old recently. She has been a lifelong resident of the borough.

There was a discussion about a plan for adding a heated garage in the borough. It was said much of the borough’s equipment should not be stored in the cold. No decision was made.

Council President Ron Karboski expressed interest in being a member of the planning commission. He was added to the commission with a term to end March 31, 2029.

The public works department requested tree removal and pruning on Route 100 at the bridge just north of the railroad tracks. Joshua Tree Experts was contracted to complete the job for $406.40.

A change order was approved for pedestrian crosswalk lighting provided by Herr Contracting. Two change orders were approved for payment in the amount of $1,500 each. The company was also paid $131,630 for crosswalk lighting. The additional crosswalk at Main Street and Brookfield Circle was approved. A grant was received to pay $29,400 for this additional crosswalk.

A resident requested relief on an excessive sewer bill which was attributed to a malfunctioning meter. It was tabled as council wants to check with Lehigh County Authority

The proposed development at 124 E. Main St. was approved. The South Walnut Street development was tabled. Council needed more time to review the plans.

There was an executive session held for legal matters.
