EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently enrolled in the 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents are Greg and Adrea, my sister is Emily and my pets are my dog Callie and my cat Bennett.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject at Emmaus is government and politics because I have always taken an interest in the way our government works and how different laws and policies affect our everyday lives.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have made the principal’s honor roll in all my years at Emmaus, I am a member of both National Honor Society and the French Honor Society, I have received a certificate for academic excellence since my freshman year and I have also lettered since my freshman year in track and field.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I am a part of the school’s track and field team, debate team and mock trial team. Both the debate team and mock trial team are a great deal of work, but they have allowed me to develop new strengths, such as public speaking as well as thinking on my feet. As for being on the track and field team, I have learned resilience, dedication and how to deal with setbacks. My involvement in these clubs and activities has helped me become a more well-rounded person.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. To this day, I would say my biggest challenge has been managing my time. Having to balance school, sports, extracurriculars and work all at the same time can be stressful from both a mental and physical aspect, which is why it is so important to organize your time. Dedicating a specific amount of time to spend on each task is efficient and can help you be productive, but it’s also just as important to leave time aside for yourself.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next long-term goal after high school is to graduate college and attend law school, where I plan on studying to become a lawyer. I have not yet decided which type of law I want to study, but nevertheless, I fully intend on pursuing a career in the field of law or government.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. If I could spend an evening with any historical figure, I would choose to spend it with Amelia Earhart. I have always been fascinated by her story since I was young, and I found it inspiring how she was one of the first female pilots to accomplish such incredible achievements, like flying solo over the Atlantic Ocean. Not only did Earhart make waves in the field of aviation, but she also encouraged other women to pursue careers at the time that had previously been considered inappropriate for women and were thought to be jobs for specifically men.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered by others for being kind. When someone shows an act of kindness toward me, even something as little as holding the door open, it immediately puts me in a better mood for the rest of the day. From that point on, not only do I associate that person with their act of kindness, but I develop a sense of respect for them as well.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice to my peers would be to get involved in clubs and other extracurricular activities early. I only started to join clubs I was interested in during my junior year, and I regret it because I missed out on two whole years of participation. Additionally, I would also advise everyone to stay on top of credit and course requirements. I found it very helpful when I sat down and reviewed everything I needed in order to graduate before selecting my courses each year. I wanted to challenge myself, but I also made sure not to overload myself with too many rigorous courses, since they can be very demanding and time consuming.
