Anna Elizabeth (Matika) Harakal, 104, died Feb. 25, 2025. She was the wife of John Paul Harakal.

Born in Czechoslovakia, her father John left for America to work in the cement quarries to save money so Anna and her mother could join him. Unfortunately, her mother died before Anna’s second birthday. Anna went to live with her grandmother until she was 12 when her father sent for her to join him in America.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She had three children, Paul, former superintendent of Penn Crest School District, Thomas, a graduate of Temple University Medical School, and Joann Lester, who taught for more than 30 years in the Whitehall-Coplay School District.
