STUDENT PROFILE Declan Messics, Liberty HS

Grade: 12

Family: Davina Messics (Mom) and Dan Messics (Dad)

Favorite subject(s): They all have their pros, but I personally like math because of the problem-solving and the thinking aspect of solving and finding the solution.

Activities: My activities included playing golf for Liberty and as well as being in theater. Also, I am in the choir and a cappella for school too.

Next steps: My next steps after high school are going to be going on to help people. I’ve officially not found what I want to do yet or what college to attend, but I am on a path of exploring new things.

Career goals: My career goals are to be able to have fun, love, and overcome tough obstacles in my career whatever that may be.

Heroes: My heroes are my mom and dad. They both bring a different perspective in life and how the world is seen, which has impacted so much throughout my time on Earth.

Hobbies: Hanging with friends, playing disc golf, pickleball, video games or just having deep convos. Spending time with my family by going out or having family game nights. Also partaking in personal development retreats.

Current job(s): My current job is being a lifeguard at my local community center (Hanover) but this ends soon. I also work as a server at a retirement home called Traditions of Hanover.

Volunteer/community work: I volunteered at my middle school, which was Nitschmann, where I helped out with the theater program. Also coached a flag football team for GLVA Athletics as well as reffing. Plus, helping out with the Special Olympics at school.

Likes: I like the school that gives us a chance to expand our minds, soak up knowledge for the real world, and socialize with new people.

Dislikes: I dislike how early school starts, because most kids, including me are tired in the morning and don’t feel like learning, so I wish it was pushed back an hour or two, In my opinion.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment is getting nominated for a Freddy award for theater, as best performance by a male Ensemble member.

Advice for peers: My advice is sometimes you win, sometimes you learn, but you never lose because you are always improving and working on yourself to get better. Everything happens for a reason!
