State Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, has announced more than $175,000 was awarded to fire and emergency medical services companies in the 187th Legislative District through the 2024-25 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.
“This is fantastic news for the dedicated first responders in the 187th Legislative District,” Day said. “Our local fire and EMS companies are the backbone of community safety and this funding will provide vital support to the brave men and women who risk their lives to protect ours.”
Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training or reduction of existing debt. The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly.
All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, not General Fund tax revenue.
Local grants include:
·Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company, $13,955.06.
·Good Will Fire Company No. 1, of Trexlertown, 16,106.84.
·Goodwill Fire Company No. 1, of Germansville, $15,030.95.
·Lynnport Community Fire Company No. 1, $13,955.06.
·Star Hose Company No. 1, $13,739.88.
·Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department, $14,170.24.
The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding. Companies must file a grant agreement with OSFC to receive their grants.
The 187th Legislative District includes Macungie and Alburtis boroughs and the townships of Upper Macungie (in part), Lower Macungie, Weisenberg, Lynn, Heidelberg and Washington.
