Maria Rodale was re-elected chairperson and Josh Buckallew was re-elected vice chairperson of the Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council.
In other business at the Feb. 19 EAC meeting, Michele Lopez, assistant zoning officer, said EAC meetings can be streamed via Google Meet. The next EAC meeting is 7 p.m. April 16 in the meeting room of the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
“We can have EAC meetings on Google Meet. They can come out to our meetings or join virtually,” Lopez said.
Lopez said she submitted the annual Bird Town report. The evaluation takes six to eight weeks.
Salisbury Township is designated as a Bird Town. The Bird Habitat Recognition Program was launched in 2008 by Audubon Pennsylvania, according to the website, https://birdtownpa.org/
The tree-planting program in the township sponsored by the EAC is being put on hold. “This year, I backed off from getting trees. We didn’t get enough volunteers. Usually, it was me and my family. We planted all the trees and they are thriving,” Lopez said.
“The one park has three trees that were buck-rutted,” Lopez said.
Rutting damage can happen during deer-mating season, September through November. Male deer, or bucks, mark their territory by rubbing antlers on tree trunks, stripping the bark, which can kill a tree.
The EAC discussed ways to publicize its meetings, including possibly placing a flyer about upcoming meeting agendas in township bills mailings.
Rodale plans to present a talk and slideshow at the April 16 EAC meeting she gave to the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture.
The Salisbury Township February municipal building meeting schedule includes: 7 p.m. Feb. 26, planning commission and 7 p.m. Feb. 27, board of commissioners.
