LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LHS, FHS both fall

When you’ve reached the District 11 6A finals the past two seasons and advanced to the PIAA tournament, it becomes normal to have that as an expectation.

Liberty’s basketball team has become accustomed to a longer postseason run, but that ended for the Hurricanes over the weekend, following a 64-47 loss to Parkland in the district quarterfinals.

The Trojans have been a crux in Liberty’s heel, eliminating from district title contention in each of the last three seasons. Parkland led 18-11 at halftime on Saturday and opened that lead even further in the third quarter to take a 17-point lead into the final quarter.

Jake Pukszyn led the Hurricanes with 29 points and Chase Dusseau added 15 points to account for nearly all of Liberty’s points. The ‘Canes only had four scorers in the contest, while Parkland had seven, led by Blake Nassry’s 26 point effort.

Liberty ends their season at 18-6 overall, losing in the first round of the EPC and District 11 tournaments.

Freedom (12-11) saw their season end in the District 11 6A opening round, falling to Nazareth in double overtime 68-65.

Nazareth came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Daniel Santos paced the Pates with 21 points and Josh Santiago added 12 points. Camron Black and Chase Sipel each chipped in 10 points apiece to push the Pates in double digits.
